In 2010, Mukerjea was awarded The Order of the Griffin, a highest honor at Purdue University, presented exclusively by the President to “men and women whose commitment and service to the University go well beyond the call of duty, and whose strength and vision have greatly benefited the institution.

In 2001, he was awarded The Christian Petersen Design Award from Iowa State University. This award is presented for “contributions to the advancement of design through personal aesthetic achievement, exceptional support, or extraordinary encouragement and service.”
